Maslaha celebrates 100 Years of International Women's Day

By Polly Gannaway

For the past few months we have been working away on an exciting new idea and it’s now time to announce it to the world…

2011 is the centenary year of International Women’s Day and to commemorate this we are launching TenSquared, a project exploring and celebrating the lives of some of the amazing Muslim women in Britain today. Throughout the year we shall be chronicling the lives of ten inspirational Muslim women, each of whom are endeavouring and succeeding in making important, tangible changes in their society. We are doing this by combining the media of photography, fine art and soundscape in order to give a deeper understanding of these women’s lives and the scale of their achievements.

The first of these portraits will be unveiled on 31st March at our launch event in Whitechapel and the project will continue throughout the year. Now we need your help! Do you know a Muslim woman who is making a different, bringing about change or pioneering in her field? This can be any field, and we really mean any field. We want as much of the spectrum of achievement to be represented in this project. This is a big challenge for us, with so many wonderful women out there, but it is one that we are delighted and excited to take head on!

Get in touch, we look forward to hearing your ideas…
