Dr Caroline Finkel is a British historian and writer who has lived in Istanbul for over 20 years. 

Caroline was an adviser and consultant in the production and development of content for Maslaha’s ‘The Book of Travels’ exhibition. As the co-author of the ‘Evliya Celebi Way,’ a guidebook to Turkey’s first long distance equestrian, hiking and biking route, Caroline brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the project. She remains a valued adviser and supporter of Maslaha’s work. 

Caroline has a PhD in Ottoman history from SOAS, University of London. She is an Honorary Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Exeter, and co-director of the historical-archaeology project Archaeological Investigation and Documentary Study of Akkerman (Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyj) Fortress in Ukraine.

Her book Osman's Dream, History of the Ottoman Empire 1300-1923 was published by John Murray in England in 2005 and is the standard one-volume work in English on the Ottoman Empire.
