Emran Mian is the Chair of Maslaha's Trustee Board. Aside from this, he is the director of the Social Market Foundation, an independent public policy think tank that works across a range of economic and social policy issues. The SMF is not aligned to any political party.
Emran formerly was a Director at the Cabinet Office and before that headed up the Strategy and Growth teams at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. He initially entered the civil service in 2002 at what is now the Ministry of Justice.
He writes a weekly column for Prospect and comments on policy issues for a wide range of other publications. He published his first book, Send In the Idiots: Stories From the Other Side of Autism, in March 2006 under his penname Kamran Nazeer. His latest book, The Banker’s Daughter, a novel, was published in 2012.
