Our Stories, Our Resistance
Our Stories, Our Resistance is a podcast created by a group of Muslim girls from Tower Hamlets, where they talk about the struggles and the joys of being a teenage Muslim girl in the UK today. They share their experiences of what it’s like growing up in a world shaped by Islamophobia, racism, sexism and how they resist oppression through faith, creativity, friendship and humour.
Too often, Muslim girls’ voices are silenced. They’re seen as either too quiet to have an opinion, or their opinions are seen as too dangerous. This podcast challenges those narratives by giving them space to to tell their own stories and let their voices be heard.
Hosted by Aisha, Maslaha’s youth facilitator, the group shares their experiences about school, family, politics, mental health and social media.
In the first episode, the girls discuss their experiences of Islamophobia in school - teachers making racist comments, being questioned about the hijab, not being accommodated during Ramadan, and being censored when talking about Palestine and politics.
This podcast was recorded during Ramadan in 2024, at a time of rising Islamophobia, just before the far-right riots and during what now many experts are calling a genocide in Palestine. This project is part of Muslim Girls Fence.
